Droso-Filler Tips

Preheat the filler. Put it in either an oven or at least very hot water. If you need gloves to move it then you got it hot enough.

  1. Work fast. Have all your trays close and ready to fill. Open/close the filler handle quickly. Check the fill volume, add a little more if needed – again quickly.
  2. If you are refilling the filler trough, make sure your food is hot and using a wood or plastic spatula give a quick stir with the remaining food. This helps keep the food temperature consistent.

Sometimes pictures/video can better depict tips for using the filler so check out this You Tube video. In my opinion, they got most things right except the speed could be quicker if they placed filled trays closer to the work area.

 

Also, highly recommend getting in touch with Kevin Gabbard (Bloomington Stock Center) He is the best I’ve seen at food prep – mixing, sifting for clumps, cooking, etc. Since he fills 250+ vial trays his set up and speed are well thought out.  kgabbard@indiana.edu
